Who's up for the Canis Lupus Challenge?

The translation of canis lupus may be "wolf" -- but the Canis Lupus Challenge doesn't really have anything to do with wolves at all except maybe their ability to manage harsh terrains.

The Canyons Resort in Park City will be hosting the Canis Lupus Challenge on Saturday, March 3. Professional snowboarder Jonathan Cheever dubbed this challenge as "a local hero event" last year.

Any skier or snowboarder over the age of 10 is welcome to register for the quarter-mile-long "gulley that serves up gated, banked slalom berms off the start, steep walls, whoops and break-overs the rest of the way down."

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning. Even if you pre-register, you have to check in between 8 and 9 to compete. After that, you're free to inspect the course until 10:30.

A riders' meeting will precede the race at 10:45 at the top of the Canis Lupus course. The event is set to start at 11 a.m.

The entry fee is $25 and the discounted racer lift ticket is $40 -- but if you win, you could land $1,000 or another great prize!
