The 2008 Deer ValleyÒ Music Festival Continues with Chamber and Opera Performances

The festival features Carnival of the Animals, the Georgia Guitar Quartet and a Tribute to Gilbert & Sullivan August 6-9

SALT LAKE CITYThe Deer ValleyÒ Music Festival (DVMF) continues with two midweek chamber performances featuring Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals at the Temple Har Shalom on Wednesday, August 6th (7:00 pm) and the Georgia Guitar Quartet at St. Mary’s Church on Thursday, August 7th (8:00 pm). The week will also include Highlights of Gilbert & Sullivan on Friday, August 8th (7:30 pm) at Deer Valley’s Outdoor Amphitheater and a soiree event at Resort West’s SKI Dream Home on Saturday, August 9th (7:00 pm)

The Utah Symphony will present their inaugural performance at the newly constructed Temple Har Shalom in Park City with a family-friendly concert that includes Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals featuring sounds of different animals in each movement. Pre-concert festivities begin at 6:00 pm and include cookie decorating with Mrs. Fields Cookies and an instrument “petting zoo” where children can get a closer look at different instruments.

On August 7th, the Georgia Guitar Quartet will bring their diverse and unique technique to St. Mary’s Church as they present a program that includes pieces written and arranged by members of the group. The Georgia Guitar Quartet, who last performed at the Deer ValleyÒ Music Festival in 2006, gain their inspiration from a diverse group of musicians from Bach to Led Zepplin.

For the past four seasons Utah Opera has presented full-length Gilbert & Sullivan operas, but this year they are doing something a little different and presenting highlights from each of the four operas performed at Deer Valley. The evening will feature pieces from HMS Pinafore, The Mikado, Pirates of Penzance and The Gondoliers. Director Patricia Weinmann will direct the cast featuring Utah favorites George Dyer and Michael Wanko. Gerald Steichen will conduct.
