Continuing the legacy of hosting ski racing and biathlon events since the 2002 Winter Olympics, Soldier Hollow Cross Country Ski Resort in Midway is hosting the 2012 U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) Marriott Junior Championships this week.
Going into its 34th season, the USSA Marriott Junior Championship is a renowned event for developing top national class athletes between ages 11 and 19. It's considered a great spring board for that talent to advance to higher-level competition, including the Olympics.
Twenty-one boys and twenty-one girls from each of the different regions of the U.S. will be competing.
The races scheduled are as follows: March 5 - Classic Sprint March 7 - Freestyle Mass Start March 9 - Classic Interval Start March 10 - Sprint Freestyle Relay
Admission is free. The main race for each day will start at 9 a.m. but the event will be held nearly all day with awards closing out the competition days.
Also in conjunction with this event, the USSA Marriott Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Junior Nationals will be held at the Utah Olympic Park in Park City from March 3 - 8.
