SAM WELLER’S AND SLUG MAGAZINE TO HOST FIRST ANNUAL CRINGE OPEN MIC EVENT FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH AT 7 PM AT SAM WELLER’S BOOKSTORE, 254 SOUTH MAIN STREET, SLC
What is Cringe?
Since April 2005, Cringe has been a monthly reading series hosted by Sarah Brown at Freddy's Bar & Backroom in Brooklyn, New York. They meet every month to read aloud from all the painfully embarrassing and heartbreaking journal entries, letters and poetry they wrote while in their angst-laden adolescence. This event, gained steam and public attention and before they knew it they had a book deal with The Crown Publishing Group. The Cringe book will be released in late August.
Sam Weller’s Bookstore and Slug Magazine have planned their very own Cringe Open Mic Event to celebrate not only the publication of the forthcoming Cringe book, but to provide our smallish community the opportunity to purge our coming-of-age journals, our devastating poetry, top-secret diaries, sophomore screenplays, high school love letters, and anything else that makes us cringe at the thought of reading them aloud. So come one come all, this event will act as a regular open mic—just come and put your name on the list before the event starts.
We will start listing folks one half hour before the event begins!
Also, we will be having a high school literary magazine swap. If you have any old literary magazines left over from your days as editor at large—bring them and collect from others!
This event is free and open to the public.
