The Park City Pioneers have completed their inaugural tryout camp by signing 10 players for the upcoming season. Highlighting that list is Adam Kostichka, an 6’4” 215 LB forward from Stevens Point, WI. Kostichka played collegiately with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the NCAA D.3, and professionally with the ECHL’s Phoenix Roadrunners and UHL’s Chicago Hounds.
Other signings include: Erik Milliron, Rob Mattison, Brandon Holmes, Austin Holmes, Michael Diersden, Chris Smith, Michael Spawton, Josh Angevine, and Michael Kars.
Milliron is a Parma, OH native that starred from 2002-2006 as a forward at Weber State University, leading them to 4 consecutive post season berths. Selected as an alternate for team USA’s entry in the 2005 World University Games, look for Milliron to showcase his exciting offensive abilities throughout the season.
A native of Anchorage, AK, Mattison comes to Park City after a successful career as a goaltender with the University of Oklahoma where he helped lead the Sooners to a top five seed in the ACHA national tournament during 2007-08. Rob is a skilled goaltender that is excited to be part of a successful Park City Club this winter.
Brandon and Austin Holmes come to Park City via Provo, UT where they most recently were top players for Brigham Young University. Brandon is a hard checking forward that can contribute offensively when called upon, and should be a fan favorite this season. Austin is a young defenseman that possesses tons of talent and should develop into one of the Pioneers’ top blue liners for the future.
Spawton (San Diego, CA) and Smith (Anchorage, AK), also products of Weber State University are versatile players who will play both forward and defense as needed this season. Both players came from strong Jr. careers to Weber State where they both served as core players of a team that was one of the top teams in the ACHA for much of their tenure. Both players will be core members of the Pioneers as they continue to progress their hockey careers.
Rounding out the list are Park City natives Michael Diersen and Josh Angevine, and Salt Lake and Provo Natives Michael Kars, James Russon, and Adam Campbell. All five players attended the tryout and impressed enough to earn contracts for 2009-10. They will be counted on to contribute on a nightly basis and the Pioneers are very happy to have acquired what we feel is top local talent.
The Pioneers are in negotiations with several other players, and will continue to recruit our remaining seven players as the summer progresses. The Pioneers inaugural season begins October 30th at the Park City Ice arena, please stay tuned for ticket information which will be announced in early July, and visit www.pcpioneershockey.com for more information.
