Park City Gets New Tennis Director

(Courtesy Park City Municipal Corp.) Michael O’Keefe has been selected as the new Tennis Director for the Park City Municipal Athletic & Recreation Center (PC MARC). O’Keefe is currently the General Manager and Director of Tennis at South Beach Racquet Club, in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina where he has worked for the past five years. South Beach has been included in the National "Top 50 Tennis Destinations" over the past four years by Tennis Resorts Online and is a previous winner of Tennis Magazine's Top Tennis Resort. In addition, he recently co-founded and serves as a Team Captain for the Professional Tennis League in Hilton Head.

O’Keefe brings a wealth of playing, teaching and coaching experience to Park City. In making the announcement of O’Keefe’s selection, Park City’s Recreation Manager Ken Fisher described O’Keefe’s more than 20 years of experience as a tennis professional. “We are fortunate to have him joining our team. Michael has trained and coached some of the top players in the world at the Van Der Meer World Class Tennis Academy.” Michael is a Certified Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) National Tester and Clinician and United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Professional.

O’Keefe is a well-rounded athlete. He played his collegiate tennis at Ithaca College, where he played #1 in both Singles and Doubles and qualified for Division III Nationals. In addition to tennis, he also was a member of Ithaca's 1991 National Championship Football team as well as playing for the college hockey team. O’Keefe is also an avid skier and was formerly a PSIA certified instructor. Fisher added that “Michael will fit in quite well with the active Park City lifestyle.”

O’Keefe is scheduled to begin work on October 10, the day the tennis bubble begins to go up.

He and Helaine, his wife of 10 years, have one daughter.
