(Courtesy Park City Area Restaurant Association) The Park City Area Restaurant Association (PCARA) is currently seeking bartenders to compete in the Park City Cocktail Contest on Tuesday, October 25 at Red Rock Junction in Redstone. Local bartenders are encouraged to develop a winter cocktail recipe that reflects Park City’s spirit and submit the concoction for a chance to win a $100 cash prize, a trophy and local bragging rights. Entries for the Park City Cocktail Contest are being accepted now through Friday, October 14th.

The Park City Cocktail Contest features 16 of the area’s best bartenders as they mix, shake and scheme up a “signature” cocktail for the town. The event is typically hosted every April and the winning cocktail determines Park City’s official drink for an entire year. The interest in Park City’s signature cocktail, however, has prompted the PCARA to hold this contest twice a year, with the winning cocktail representing the winter or summer season. For the first time, October’s Cocktail Contest will determine Park City’s 2011-2012 winter drink.

“A lot of people come out to cheer on the bartenders at the annual Cocktail Contest,” said Kevin Valaika, board president of the PCARA. “These bartenders put a lot of effort into creating a tasty drink, and a winter-specific cocktail contest will be no different. People love winter cocktails, especially with the après ski crowd, so it makes sense to have drinks that represent Park City’s two major seasons.”

Judges at the semi-annual Cocktail Contest include Mary Malouf (Food Editor, Salt Lake Magazine), Ted Scheffler (Food Editor, City Weekly), Chantelle Bourdeaux (Edible Wasatch) and Brian Richards (Owner Mountain Town Music) to name a few.  Drinks will be judged based on presentation, taste and appearance.

There is no cost for PCARA members and bartenders to enter the contest, and it is $50 for non-members. The Park City Cocktail Contest is open to the public, aged 21+, from 6:30 – 9:30pm on Tuesday, October 25. Admission is $10 at the door and includes snacks and the opportunity to vote on your favorite cocktail. All proceeds from the Park City Cocktail Contest will benefit the People’s Health Clinic, a non-profit, community clinic that provides high-quality healthcare to the uninsured individuals and families in Summit and Wasatch Counties in Utah.  To date, the Park City Cocktail Contest has raised over $6,000 in support of the People’s Health Clinic through previous contests.

As an exclusive to the Fall Cocktail Contest, Newpark Resort & Hotel is offering a special promotion.  Guests who book a room through Newpark Resort & Hotel will receive two (2) free tickets into the Park City Cocktail contest and a free upgrade from a Deluxe Room to a Suite.
