Utah is a great place for filmmakers - with incredible vistas, mountains, canyons, cities and small towns, you can shoot nearly anything.

But you don't have to be Steven Spielberg to create a great film - and two groups are helping create the next generation of filmmakers.

First, there's the Best of the West Snow Sports Film Competition, which is looking for filmmakers under 24, who can craft a great short film featuring snowboarding, skiing or snowmobiling.

Then, of course, there's SpyHop, which just got at $45,000 grant to help fund its out-of-school Multimedia Apprenticeship Program. According to a press release,

Seventy-two youth will participate in the program, helping to increase their community and global awareness, problem solving, critical thinking, and media and technology skills. The program will also serve four to six Salt Lake City area not-for-profit groups by producing websites, public service announcements, TV commercials, short documentaries, and print collateral. Through the professional experience, students will earn weekly stipends while developing substantial creative portfolios to be critiqued by industry professionals.

So if you're a budding filmmaker, now's your chance!
