Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort is proud to present the first annual Bluegrass Camp for Kids, July 8-10. The camp is part of Snowbird’s new Mountain Music Festival, which runs July 8-12 and will feature nationally renowned acts such as the Cowboy Junkie’s, Son Volt, Old 97’s, The SteelDrivers and more.
“The Snowbird Mountain Music Festival is an expansion of the musical and entertainment offerings that the Folk & Bluegrass Festival provided in Little Cottonwood Canyon for 20 years,” said Snowbird Renaissance Center general manager and festival presenter Teri Mumm. “This new Bluegrass Camp for Kids program is a fantastic way for children to pick up an instrument, receive top-notch instruction and have tons of fun in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains.”
The three-day camp is open to 35 children ages 5-17 of all musical abilities. Instruction will be provided by members of Bearfoot, an accomplished bluegrass band from Alaska that has taught thousands of kids worldwide. Through an advance registration process, participants will pick from a wide range of classes, including all levels of guitar, bass, banjo, fiddle and vocals. Campers will also be involved in a joint band class, daily jams, square dances, art projects and opportunities for private instruction and games. The camp concludes with a final concert for friends and family on the afternoon of July 10.
Tuition is $175 per participant, with scholarships available through the Snowbird Renaissance Center. Campers can borrow instruments or bring their own, and the curriculum includes lunch, snacks and transportation. For more information, please visit www.snowbirdrc.org.
In addition to presenting nationally acclaimed Americana musicians, the Snowbird Mountain Music Festival also includes the Snowbird Song School, Open Mic, Band Scramble, Utah State Instruments Competition, Susanne Millsaps Performing Songwriter Showcase, and the Snowbird Fiddle Workshop.
An all-festival early bird pass is $65 until June 1, $75 afterwards. Single general admission tickets are $35/day starting June 1, $45/day at the gate day of show (kids under 12 admitted free with a paying adult). New this year is a Festival Season Pass that offers unlimited access to nine days of nationally renowned musicians during the Mountain Music Festival, Rock and Blues, and the new Snowbird Tent Revival, a celebration of Gospel music.
