Father’s Day weekend at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort will be filled with the best food, beer and music in the state during the second annual Grill on the Hill BBQ Championship and Brewfest, June 19-21. The kickoff event for Snowbird’s summer festival lineup features the top barbeque chefs in the country along with plenty of exceptional food, children’s activities, live music, shopping and entertainment for spectators.
“There isn’t a better way to celebrate Father’s Day weekend with the family and usher in summer than sampling world-class BBQ,” said Teri Mumm, general manager of the Snowbird Renaissance Center (SRC), the non-profit organization responsible for Snowbird cultural activities.
The Kansas City BBQ Society-sanctioned competition features the best pit cooks from across the nation vying for their share of $10,000 in cash and prizes. Competition categories include pork ribs, pork shoulder, beef brisket and chicken. New this year is a Brewfest and Backyard BBQ Contest on Sunday, June 21. Brewfest will feature nearly a dozen Utah breweries selling three ounce servings for $1 while the Backyard BBQ Contest lets amateur chefs show off their favorite recipes and grilling secrets in a special Father’s Day competition.
The festivities begin Friday, June 19, at 4 p.m. when the food vendors, beer garden, kids art area and marketplace open. Live music, including Great American Taxi featuring Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon, will kick off at 5 p.m. to celebrate the start of the SRC’s summer festival lineup (visit www.snowbirdrc.org for additional events, including Mountain Music Festival and Snowbird Tent Revival).
The Grill on the Hill BBQ Championship and Brewfest and festivities take place at Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort, located 25 miles from downtown Salt Lake City in scenic Little Cottonwood Canyon. Take Little Cottonwood Canyon Road to Snowbird Entry 2. Lodging packages, starting at $59 per person, are available at www.snowbird.com.
The Grill on the Hill BBQ Championship and Brewfest is presented by the SRC, where high art lives up to its name through enhancing arts and cultural opportunities in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Visit www.snowbirdrc.org for more information.
