Lots of people think that if you want to live "green" you have to spend a lot of money. Park City Municipal disagrees and is building an affordable housing project that will be pretty environmentally friendly. Want to be a part of it? Here's the scoop:
Park City Municipal Corporation is now accepting applications for its Snow Creek Cottages housing development. Thirteen two and three bedroom homes are under construction with a target completion date of early June 2010. The Snow Creek Cottages are model of sustainable housing development incorporating photovoltaic solar panels, a geothermal heating system, Structurally Integrated Panels (SIPs) that provide a very tight building envelope and “energy star” appliances and equipment.
The Snow Creek Cottages meet two important City priorities – expanding homeownership opportunities for the community’s workforce and reducing the City’s impact on the environment. Two bedroom homes will sell for $228,000 and three bedroom homes for $264,000. Priority is being given to tenured Park City community members – those who’ve lived and/or worked in the community for five years or more. In addition, added advantage will be given to lower-income households earning less than $70,000 and first-time homebuyers.
The selection will take place as a lottery scheduled for Friday, March 26 at 5:30pm in the City Council chambers at 445 Marsac Avenue. Eligible applicants must be present for the selection. Completed applications are due by 5pm on Friday, March 5. Applications can be downloaded from the City website at www.parkcity.org or picked up at the Marsac Building reception desk.
