COURT OF MASTER SOMMELIERS BRINGS LEADING EDUCATION PROGRAM TO MONTAGE DEER VALLEY
Introductory Sommelier Certification Program Offered to the Public
PARK CITY, UTAH (May 25, 2011) – On July 11 and 12, the Court of Master Sommeliers will offer an intensive, two-day instruction and training session at Montage Deer Valley to educate students on the art and science of wine and spirits. A select group of the world’s foremost experts on the topic, Master Sommeliers Frederick Dame, Ron Mumford and Larry O’Brien, will instruct the Introductory Sommelier Certification program. Participants will conclude the course by completing the first of the Court of Master Sommeliers four exams, each of which requires an increasing dedication to the mastery of all elements of beverage theory and service. Those who graduate from the Introductory Sommelier Certification will be one step closer to joining the exclusive group of only 112 individuals in North America with the coveted title of Master Sommelier.
The Court’s expert instruction, combined with the public’s growing interest in wine, means that sommelier courses fill up far in advance and command a sizable waitlist. In addition to learning wine regions and their history, varietals and terroir, beverage service and theory during this introductory course, participants will refine their tasting palate and identify the subtle complexities found in a wine profile.
“It’s always exciting to see who will walk through those classroom doors,” said Frederick Dame, Chairman Emeritus of the Court of Master Sommeliers Americas and current President of the Guild of Sommeliers Education. “Working with young sommeliers provides the Court a wonderful opportunity to ensure that the next generation of wine professionals share our passion for wine. Each of these candidates has the potential to be the next great Master Sommelier.”
Individuals interested in the Introductory Certification should have a prior knowledge of wine regions worldwide. The introductory course will be held at Montage Deer Valley on July 11 and 12. Program registration is available online at www.parkcityfoodandwineclassic.com and is $495 per person.
