The world's top off-road triathletes will be in Ogden this September 26th for the XTERRA World Championships. While you might not feel up to competing with those folks, you can be a part of the event with a great trail run competition. This is from our friends at XTERRA:
An epic run is beckoning you, so get ready for 13-miles of Mother Nature’s finest terrain. Your XTERRA Wheeler Canyon trail running journey will take you from Pineview Reservoir (a bright and early start at 7:30am in the morning) straight up into the magnificent Wheeler slot Canyon. About a mile or so of road before the trail head will give you the chance to warm-up your legs and settle into early position amongst the field. Once you hit the dirt you’ll discover XTERRA trail running heaven as you snake your way up the mountain with the ultimate goal of reaching Snowbasin Resort – which sits like an Oasis a dozen miles and 2,300-feet of climbing away. Mild, steady climbs on dirt, rock, and root-ridden mountain trails give way to more demanding climbs on a combination of sweet single track and rocky double track and the views of Mount Ogden and the surrounding wilderness along this pristine set of alpine trails are simply stunning.
As endurance trail runs go, the XTERRA Wheeler Canyon Xduro off-road half-marathon is no doubt one of the toughest – yet most enjoyable – anywhere. Last year the men’s winner was B.J. Christenson, 30, of Salt Lake City in 1:19:50 and Liz Stephen, 21, of Park City won the women’s race in 1:32:10.
Once you get to the top grab an ice cold drink and some bbq from the resort and soak in the one-of-a-kind atmosphere of the XTERRA USA Championship off-road triathlon. You’re invited to join this wild collection of high energy characters at a party under the stars that night in downtown Ogden with highlight videos, great food, live music, and good vibes. It’s all part of the annual Mountain 2 Metrogames which are running simultaneously with a host of activities and events for the whole family.
Make plans now to race up the Canyon, a rare and exciting opportunity to trail run through extreme beauty.
