Whether it's coincidence or not, this Saturday (March 10) marks the 10th Annual Wasatch Powder Keg at Brighton Ski Resort. The Wasatch Powder Keg is a backcountry race where skiers are tested in their speed, strength and endurance. Within the Race division and the Recreational division, there are men/women categories as well as a race/heavy metal category in the Race division.
The Race covers 11 miles and 6 climbs of covering 6,000 feet while the Rec is only 6.5 miles with 4 climbs covering 3,500 feet.
Following the race, there will be an awards ceremony, a BBQ, a Beacon Search Contest (open to the public), an Avalanche Dog & Strategic Shoveling demo by the Brighton Ski Patrol, and a raffle at the Millet Chalet.
Registration for the Wasatch Powder Keg is $65 and you can register at UltraSignup. There is a mandatory pre-race meeting for registered racers on Friday, March 9 from 5:45 - 7:30 at 6322 South 3000 East, Suite 100.
On Saturday morning, the racers will check in at 6 a.m. at Brighton's Millet Chalet.
The race will take off at 7 a.m. and the Sprint Event Start is at 11 a.m., both at the Milly Base.
